CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — The Chester County Sheriff’s Office is planning a new drug diversion program.

Investigators got specialized training Tuesday in helping people with drug addictions.

Our partners at CN2 News got a look at the training.

The sheriff said investigators are learning to identify those dealing with addiction and how to help without arresting them.

Sheriff Max Dorsey said they want to make positive changes in people’s lives.

“To where they can come out of that addiction lifestyle and avoid going to jail and taking up so many of those resources that should be focused on violent criminals, drug dealers, and drug traffickers,” Dorsey said.

The sheriff said the diversion program is meant to help those with addictions, not their suppliers.
