Chester County Schools district works to make safety improvements without bond referendum funds

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — As we remember the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, leaders in one local school district are trying to figure out how to make schools safer without the money it takes to rebuild them.

Two weeks ago, voters in Chester County said “no” to a $220 million bond that would have rebuilt and made safety improvements to schools across the district.

“A lot of our campuses have interior doors to the outside. People can get into these campuses without even bypassing the main office,” said Antwon Sutton, Chester County superintendent.
