CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a 72-year-old man dead in Chester County Thursday morning.
Officials confirmed with Channel 9 South Carolina bureau reporter Greg Suskin that Dell Carter, of Clover, was killed in the collision. Carter was a resident at an assisted-living facility in Chester.
Investigators said a vehicle was traveling west toward Lockhart on Highway 9 around 6:15 a.m. when the driver struck Carter near Mount Prospect Road. The driver did not stop.
The Chester County coroner confirms that one person has been killed in a hit and run this morning. It happened on Hwy 9 at Pilgrim Rd about 90 minutes ago. That's west of Chester. The road is closed, and officials are still on the scene.

The highway was closed for hours as officials investigated.
Troopers said the suspect was driving a 2005-2009 Ford Mustang that should have front end damage.
