Cheerwine and NoDa Brewing collaborate on Cheerwine Ale

CHARLOTTE — Two popular family-owned North Carolina beverage companies have partnered to create a new drink.

Cheerwine and NoDa Brewing Company have released Cheerwine Ale, a wheat beer brewed using the iconic southern soft drink.

While this isn’t the first Cheerwine-inspired beer created, this collaboration does mark a milestone for the 106-year-old soda: it’s the first time a canned beer offering featuring the soft drink will be available year-round in stores.

“For years, people have incorporated Cheerwine into barbecue sauces, cocktails, desserts and more, and now we’re adding beer to that list,” Joy Ritchie Harper, vice-president of marketing for Cheerwine and fifth-generation founding family member, said in a news release.

“Like Cheerwine, NoDa is an iconic Carolina original,” Harper added. “As one of Charlotte’s first craft breweries, it’s a classic brand led by passionate people and the perfect partner to produce a Cheerwine-infused beer.”

Beginning this week, Cheerwine Ale, which comes in 16 oz. four-pack cans, is available at all North Carolina Food Lion grocery stores and select Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, and Total Wine locations.

It’s also on draft at select Charlotte and Triangle restaurants and bars as well as NoDa Brewing Company’s four locations.

In the coming weeks, it will be available at Publix, Ingles, and local bottle shops throughout the Carolinas.
