MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. — Deputies said a chase that started in Stanly County ended in a crash in Cabarrus County on Friday afternoon.
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office said the chase started as a traffic stop for careless and reckless driving on Highway 73 just outside Albemarle.

Deputies said the driver, identified as 27-year-old Trevor Mondale Turner, took off.
They said the suspect’s car reached speeds above 100 mph and rammed a Stanly County deputy’s vehicle at one point.
Deputies said the chase lasted about 16 miles before Turner crashed into a tow truck at the intersection of Main and Franklin streets in downtown Mount Pleasant.
Investigators said they took marijuana and a large amount of cash from the vehicle.
Turner was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and will be charged once he’s released.
The tow truck driver was not hurt.
