Charlotte’s fintech startup ecosystem gets high marks

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte’s burgeoning presence in the fintech sector has landed the city in the top 10 in a recent ranking of regions around the world that have strong ecosystems for financial-technology startups.

The 2022 Fintech Edition of Startup Genome’s Global Startup Ecosystem Report looks at markets around the world with populations under 3 million, excluding top-tier tech sectors like those in New York, California’s Silicon Valley and Boston. It analyzed multiple factors, assigning scores in seven areas: performance, funding, startup experience, knowledge, talent, focus and legacy.

Charlotte landed at No. 9 on the global ranking — and third in the U.S., trailing only Austin, Texas, and Salt Lake City-Provo, Utah.
