Charlotte woman’s professional gift wrapping business takes off

CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte woman turned her passion for wrapping gifts into a business — and her business is booming this holiday season.

Natasha Pender says her aunts used to buy a lot of presents and not want to wrap them. That was where she stepped in. Natasha would wrap the gifts for her aunts to make a little extra cash around Christmas.

Years later, she heard from someone that they wished they had someone to wrap their gifts for them. The hobby she loved then became a business — Wrapper’s Delight LLC. The business launched in January 2020 and interest this year is extremely high.

“I am sweating. My fingers are a little sore,” Pender said. “It has been incredible.”

Pender takes her mobile wrapping station anywhere it is needed. On Christmas Eve, the van was posted outside the Charlotte Premium Outlets.

Pender says no two customers are the same. “I anticipated it would be a lot of men who use my services, however, there have been a lot of women who say they are super busy,” she said.

One of the customers on Christmas Eve was Michael Everett. He stopped by the outlets for last-minute gifts and said he was thankful to see Pender there.

“I have a few more stores to hit after this and I was thinking ‘Man, I don’t want to wrap all of these gifts,’” he said. “So it is truly a blessing to see her out here.”

Pender says the job is special and she loves using her talents to make people’s days.

“The most rewarding part has been the faces when they light up,” she said. “I’ve had people cry because the gift is going to a special person.”

She has been going to bed at midnight and waking up at 5:30 a.m. every day since Black Friday. She will finally be taking a day off on Christmas.

“I plan to sleep most of the day on Christmas Day,” she said. “But then I will be back at it on the 26th.”

Christmas is the busiest times of year for Wrapper’s Delight but Pender says she wraps gifts throughout the whole year for events like Mother’s Day, anniversaries, and birthday parties. Pender says she will bring her mobile wrapping station right to her customers.

Gift wrapping starts at $6.50. It takes 5-8 minutes to wrap a gift, depending on its size.
