Charlotte woman sentenced for embezzling $245,000

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte businesswoman pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $250,000 in tax money.

Stephanie Holbrooks is the chief financial officer for Appian Construction.

She helped the company keep $245,000 worth of taxes over a period of six years starting in 2010.

A judge sentenced her to six months in jail, along with community service and probation.

She has paid the money back.
