CHARLOTTE — Country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will be trading in their guitars and microphones for hard hats and shovels during a return to Charlotte next year.
The pair will be the honorary hosts for Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project when the big event makes a comeback to the Charlotte area in 2023.

It was 35 years ago that the Queen City hosted the annual Carter Work Project. Back in 1987, it was only its fourth iteration, and the Carter Work Project focused on the Optimist Park community. Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, joined a group of volunteers to build 14 houses in one week.
Next year, the focus will be on The Meadows at Plato Price, and work will take place from Oct. 1-6, 2023. According to Habitat for Humanity, the property was formerly the site of the Plato Price School, an education and civic space for west Charlotte through the mid-1960s. With the Carter Work Project, the nine-acre area will be given new life.
Brooks and Yearwood are the honorary hosts because the Carters are no longer traveling.
An official announcement is being made Monday at The Meadows at Plato Price, featuring a special video from Brooks and Yearwood.
