CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte resident and World War II veteran celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday.
Bill Parlier was born in Winston Salem on April 13, 1922, but now lives in Charlotte.
Parlier served in the US Army in France and Germany in his twenties.
The American Legion’s North Carolina chapter helped put on the celebration for Parlier.
Parlier was presented a US flag that was flown over the US Capitol in honor of his service and his 100th birthday.

“Of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II, only 230,000 were alive entering 2022, including 6,000 in North Carolina, at least 230 die each day, according to our department data,” said Andrew Derderian, who helped organize the event.
Derderian said the American Legion Department of North Carolina remains true to their motto “Veterans Strengthening America.”
Parlier shared a piece of advice for the younger generations on Saturday as he approaches a century old.
“Love your wife, husband, whoever you have. Treat people like you wish they’d treat you,” said Parlier.
