CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Radiology said it experienced a data breach involving patient information back in December.
Channel 9 received a letter from the health care provider Thursday that said they identified the security incident on Dec. 24 and notified law enforcement. During the investigation, they also learned that between Dec. 17 and Dec. 24, an unauthorized party gained access to their network and took copies of some of the documents on the system.
The documents contained some patients’ information, including patient names, addresses, health insurance information, medical record number and more. Charlotte Radiology said some patients Social Security numbers in the documents involved in the breach.
The health care provider said it is offering complimentary credit monitoring to those people.

“Charlotte Radiology takes seriously the confidentiality and security of our patients’ information. We continue to implement enhancements to information security, systems, and monitoring capabilities, and are committed to providing the best care for our patients,” the health care provider said.
They said they were able to contain the incident within several days.
Charlotte Radiology also manages Carolinas Imaging Services, which provides services in Charlotte, Rock Hill and Huntersville. In April, the health care provider also notified those patients that the data breach impacted them.
Charlotte Radiology set up a dedicated call center to answer questions about this incident. Patients can contact the call center at 1-855-604-1852, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
Patients are advised to also review statements to check for charges for services they did not receive.
