Charlotte Pride Festival wraps up with annual parade

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Pride Festival wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with the annual Charlotte Pride Parade, which has become the largest LBGTQ+ celebration in the Carolinas and the city’s largest annual parade.

More than 200 groups took part in the parade, including Channel 9 team members.

Attendee Tracey Hummell told us what she likes the about the growth of the parade.

“I think Charlotte has done a really great job of supporting everybody’s differences,” Hummell said. “Everyone showing up today, everyone was out yesterday for the street festival. It’s nice to see, we’ve done a good job as a city supporting our neighbors and friends.”

Charlotte Pride’s first official event happened back in 2001, with 2,000 attendees. A record-breaking 275,000 people went last year.
