CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Preparatory School in southeast Charlotte is receiving a sizeable donation to help start repairs after part of the school was badly damaged in a fire in June.

The inferno caused $2.5 million in damage to the school on Boyce Road, which is off Sardis Road, fire officials estimated.

In a social media post this week, officials said they received a $150,000 donation from the Philip L. Van Every Foundation through a student’s grandparent.

No one was hurt in the fire. The school resumed its normal summer camp schedule earlier this month.

The head of Charlotte Prep stated in a letter to have temporary lower-school classrooms by the start of the school year.

The first day for the lower school is set for Aug. 16. It is still unclear what led to the fire.
