CHARLOTTE — A Mecklenburg County paramedic died after suffering a medical emergency while on duty, according to MEDIC.
Officials said Mark Hayes was on duty Saturday when he suffered the emergency.

“This tragic development has had a profound impact on Medic and its employees,” said John Peterson, executive director, Mecklenburg EMS Agency. “On behalf of Mark’s co-workers, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this time of solace.”

Hayes had been with MEDIC since 1997, according to the agency.
“It has been an honor to serve beside Mark and we stand with his family and friends in grief,” the release said in part.
On Monday, MEDIC posted the GoFundMe for the Hayes family, saying, “Mark passed away serving his community, doing what he loved. Let’s honor him and support his family now.”
No further details were given about Hayes’ death.
