CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Coy Shue, World War II veteran who served in the Marine Corps., just turned 100 years old.
The Charlotte natives family threw him the celebration of a lifetime Saturday with friends and a few local first responders.
Shue said seeing so many people come to celebrate his life is an unbelievable feeling. He said keeping Christ at the center of his life has brought him this far.
“God has been in the center of our lives. My whole life,” he said. “I’m sure he protected me through the war. I had a mortar shell land in the hole with me in Ordway on Iwo Jima and it didn’t go off.”
She said he’s been married to his wife Doris for 74 “good” years. The couple has two sons, Rob and Ronnie, who also served as Marines.
