CHARLOTTE — A local contestant on American Idol is moving on.
Charlotte native Nailyah Serenity appeared on Sunday night’s episode and received a golden ticket.
Serenity currently lives in Atlanta, but she told Channel 9 she got into music when she attended the Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte.
Before her audition, Serenity said the process was nerve-racking.
“To be in front of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan was the most nervous I’ve ever been to perform in my entire life. I don’t think I’ve ever been that nervous,” Serenity said.

Serenity doesn’t remember much from the actual audition.
“I barely even remember what happened in the room. It was insane,” Serenity said.
Serenity is the second local singer to make it to Hollywood after a Clover man earned a golden ticket last month.
