Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department seeks police trainees

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is accepting applications for the police trainee process now through July 15.

The department offers pay starting at $44,362. Training officers can earn up to $82,192 with a four-year college degree and applicable secondary language experience.

Applications are also being accepted for the lateral process from both in-state and out-of-state police officers interested in transferring to CMPD. Depending on their years of qualified service and education, lateral transfers may start as high as $65,433.

"We have nearly 40 recruits going through the academy now, and we want those numbers to continue growing," CMPD Chief Kerr Putney stated in a release. "We are looking for the best who truly want to serve and be the difference in their community."

Key job benefits include:

  • $2,500 incentive pay for living in city limits.
  • Take-home vehicle opportunities.
  • Education tuition reimbursement and incentive pay.
  • Six weeks paid parental leave.
  • Ability for eligible military or veteran personnel to apply for GI Bill benefits.
  • Incentive pay for second language proficiency.
  • Two weeks paid vacation.
  • Paid military leave.
