CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation will receive a $10 million donation from two Tepper foundations to help fund the new Main Library in uptown, according to an announcement on Thursday.
With the Teppers’ gift, $115 million has been raised toward the library foundation’s goal of $143 million to fund the new library, renovations to the Support Services Center, technology and programming, the release said.
“We are excited about being involved in the library project, which is an investment in opportunity and access for all,” David Tepper said in the release.
The funds will come from the Tepper Foundation and the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation. The Teppers own the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC.
The 100-year-old Main Library on North Tryon Street is set to be redeveloped over the next four years. The five-story building is expected to include a café, theater, outdoor patios and a redesigned Spirit Square.
The project is estimated to cost $154 million. It is scheduled to reopen in 2025.
