ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities arrested a Charlotte man Monday following a police pursuit along Interstate 85 that ended in Rowan County.
Officials with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office were working traffic enforcement on northbound Interstate 85 when they tried to stop a 2008 BMW with a fraudulent South Carolina temporary tag.
The driver, Jadarius McCullough, would not stop though and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase along the interstate.
Deputies said McCullough, 22, got off I-85 onto North Long Street in East Spencer and struck a mailbox, careening through a yard on Robinson Road.
Officials said McCullough was holding a handgun when he got out of the car and ran across Long Street toward the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks.
Troopers, deputies, and officers descended on the area and McCullough was found more than an hour later between the railroad tracks and Lexington Avenue in Spencer.
During the pursuit, deputies recovered a small amount of marijuana that had been thrown from the vehicle, but the gun was not recovered.
McCullough, who claimed to be a student at Guilford Tech in Greensboro, was wanted for a probation violation from October 12, 2017, where officials said he was stopped on I-85 in Rowan County for a speeding violation and driving a stolen Dodge Charger with a fraudulent South Carolina temporary tag.
McCullough was charged with felony fleeing to elude, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless driving, resist, obstruct and delay a public officer, and speeding while attempting to elude.
Deputies detained the front seat passenger, but no charges were filed against that person.
