Charlotte Knights raise more than $125,000 for health care workers, local charities

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In April, the Charlotte Knights baseball organization launched a community initiative to help health care workers, local charities and its employees affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With help from a $75,000 donation from naming rights partner, Truist, and additional contributions from Charlotte Knights Charities, sponsors and fans, the “Knights Care 4 CLT” fund was able to raise more than $125,000.

“As this pandemic continues to affect so many in our community, we are very pleased to begin dispersing these much-needed funds to those who need some help,” the team’s chief operating officer, Dan Rajkowski, said in a news release.

In addition to some of the funds going to Knights employees who were displaced when the 2020 season was canceled, the team is also contributing $15,000 to the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund to help with its personal protective equipment and supply shortages.

Part of the money will also be donated to seven local nonprofits, including Bright Blessings, Care Ring, Classroom Central, Promising Pages, Roof Above, Second Harvest Food Bank and A Child’s Place - Thompson Child and Family Focus.
