CHARLOTTE — From the moment fans approach the main soccer entrance at Bank of America Stadium a year from now, things will look familiar but different -- starting with a 210-foot-long, high-definition LED video board displaying team graphics and other messages to set the mood for match day.
Mark Hart, chief operating officer at Tepper Sports & Entertainment, this week discussed with CBJ the main elements of the stadium’s $50 million makeover for Major League Soccer. Construction started last month, and Thursday marked the release of detailed renderings of what the upgrades will look like when finished next spring.
Among the new features scheduled to be in place by the time BofA Stadium becomes an MLS home field in 2022:
- A new-look Mint Street entrance that will include Charlotte FC’s logo next to the Panthers’ emblem at the top of the structure; the addition of the previously mentioned LED board, perched immediately above the security checkpoint stations; twice as many entry points for fans; and changes to make the concourse brighter and more open.
- LED lighting featured throughout a soccer locker room for the home team, right off the midfield player entryway, that is being carved into space under the seating bowl previously used for storage.
- A 3,500-square-foot club area dubbed The Vault, playing off the BofA name on the stadium and the less-open, more tucked-away aesthetic of converting portions of the stadium underbelly into a VIP area.
