The Interstate-85 rivalry is now even after Atlanta bested Charlotte a month ago.
In the 11th minute, Charlotte FC midfielder Jordy Alcivar wrapped a corner kick to the far side of the goal, off the Atlanta United goalkeeper’s glove and into the back of the net.
The lone goal held as the difference until halftime. Aside from Alcivar’s strike, the two clubs appeared evenly matched on the pitch and in the stat sheet.
After the break, both teams saw promising opportunities fall by the wayside. Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina turned away 16 shots, including six on goal.
This is the foes second matchup in less than a month. In the clubs’ first faceoff, Atlanta United scored a goal in stoppage time to push past Charlotte FC, 2-1.
Charlotte FC’s play has continued to improve. The club has tallied three victories in its last four matches, including two shutouts by Kahlina and the defense.
