Charlotte and FBI seize 12 kg of cocaine and 11 firearms

CHARLOTTE — A joint Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and FBI narcotics investigation has led to the arrest of four people and the seizure of about 12 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 11 firearms and $130,000 in cash.

CMPD said the investigation focused on a kilo-level cocaine distributor operating on Charlotte’s east side.

Officers conducted several weeks of surveillance at residences on Old Mt. Holly Huntersville Road and Rocky River Church Road.

On Aug. 18, officers stopped a vehicle connected to the investigation and, with help from a CMPD K9, found about one kilogram of suspected cocaine and more than $69,000 in cash.

Jose Ismael Fernandez, 29, and Marlon Alexis Fernandez-Calix, 36, were arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine.

Search warrants were executed at both residences early Aug. 19.

Investigators said they seized about 12 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 18 grams of suspected fentanyl, 11 firearms and approximately $130,000 in cash.

Derek Reid, 44, and Andre Desmond Chisholm, 40, were also arrested. Both face charges including trafficking cocaine and fentanyl, firearm possession by a felon while committing another felony, drug paraphernalia, conspiracy, and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.

Nine people were detained during the searches, and CMPD said additional charges are expected.
