CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The main entrance to Charlotte Douglas International Airport will have a new look around this time next year, after City Council on Monday approved a $4 million contract for Edison Foard Construction Services to install new signs along Wilkinson Boulevard.

In a news release, the airport calls the centerpiece of the project an "architectural crown monument" to be placed at the corner of Wilkinson and Josh Birmingham Parkway. In addition, signs depicting the airport's official identifier, CLT, will be placed along Wilkinson on either side of the entrance. The installation is expected to be complete in summer or early fall of 2020.
Like other capital and operating costs, the new features will be paid for using airport revenue.
