Charlotte councilman says wife still recovering after hit by truck at school bus stop

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Councilman Tariq Bokhari said his wife continues to recover more than a week after she and two of his children were hit by a truck while they waited for the school bus in south Charlotte.

The city councilman posted on social media that his children were scraped up and were released from the hospital following the collision on the first day of school.

His wife Krista’s CT scans were good, Bokhari said, though he added that she couldn’t move her neck immediately after the incident, and had a concussion.

Bokhari said he was angry there were no sidewalks where the collision happened and wanted to send a message to others.

“School is back in session, and many places don’t have sidewalks and there are no safe options,” he said. “Slow down. There’s nowhere you need to be that’s worth changing someone’s family forever. Remember that.”

The councilman tweeted that he was grateful for Charlotte’s fire and police departments and Atrium Health.

On Tuesday, Bokhari said his wife is still in serious pain but is getting better every day. Their kids have returned to school and he said he was thankful for everyone’s prayers and support.

The driver of the truck stayed on the scene.
