CHARLOTTE, N.C. — President Donald Trump filed for re-election earlier than any other U.S. president, and is having no trouble garnering campaign funding. The president raised $20 million for his campaign in the first three months of 2018 alone, according to a report by Politico.
North Carolinians largely supported Trump in the 2016 election, with 49.8% checking his box at the polls. It seems voting is not the only type of support residents of the Tar Heel State are willing to give the president, either. Over 1,800 donations have already been made by N.C. individuals to Trump’s re-election campaign during the 2017-18 cycle, campaign finance records show. The top 30 donors alone have collectively given over $145,000 to his campaign.
Among those top donors are Charlotte Checkers owner Michael Kahn and wife Wendy, who gave $4,835 and $10,800, respectively. Combined, the couple’s donations are more than the amount given by the top individual donor on the list — Louis DeJoy of Greensboro, who has contributed $13,500.
