CHARLOTTE — An athlete from Charlotte who represented the state at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin took home gold.
Philip Blount previously spoke with Channel 9 about preparing for the 100m sprint, 400x1m relay baton, and standing shotput. Last month, he was able to do the Queen City proud.
“Of course, all the effort of training and, and effort to make it happen was one of the things that I was really striving for. So for that, to get one, was so exciting,” he said. “Because you know, of course, you got tough competition from all over the world. And on top of that, they’re pretty big, tall guys.”
>> In the video at the top of the page, Channel 9′s Elsa Gillis sat down with the medalist and his family about the special achievement and the moments that led to this major accomplishment.
