Charlotte among first markets to debut Wells Fargo express center

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte is one of a handful of markets picked to try Wells Fargo & Co.‘s express centers.

The 2,300-square-foot local center opened off Prosperity Church Road, at 5920 Highlands Shoppes Drive, in mid-July. It is the fifth center overall for the bank. The first one opened about a year and a half ago. There is one in Texas, one in Utah and two in Washington, D.C.

Express centers are meant to complement the traditional branch. They are smaller, self-service locations with more emphasis on digital-first banking, said Josh Cullen, district manager.

The Charlotte center has three bankers to offer assistance if needed. There are no tellers and no drive-thru lane. Customers can perform cash transactions using 24-hour, assisted ATMs.

“It’s a move to expand the network and be more effective,” said Kendall Alley, Charlotte regional president at Wells Fargo. “From an execution standpoint, we don’t have as many people on the ground every day, but we’ve got all the capabilities there.”
