CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Douglas International Airport says construction will mean some neighborhoods will get overhead flights during the night for the rest of the year.

Reconstruction of a portion of Taxiway A will last through December.

The work will mean the temporary closure of Runway 5/23 for the duration of the project and intermittent nighttime closures of Runway 18C/36C.

That will mean the Federal Aviation Administration will reroute aircraft to the airport's other runways and surrounding neighborhoods located north and south of the parallel runways will experience overhead flights between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
