Centene buys land for HQ project in University area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The development team for the $1 billion campus for Centene Corp. in University Research Park has been finalized and construction will begin Aug. 1.

Health insurance company Centene is establishing an East Coast headquarters in Charlotte and has ambitious real estate plans for its campus, including 1 million square feet of office space, an early childhood development center, a training facility, and walking trails and water features across the property.

St. Louis-based Centene closed on the 80.7-acre property at 2405 Governor Hunt Road on July 10, paying $10 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records.
