There could soon be new technology that would jam cellphone signals in prisons.
Officials say cell signals need to be blocked behind prison walls to help put a stop to contraband smuggling.
State leaders plan to present a study to corrections officials across the United States.

They will ultimately decide if the plan is worth spending millions of taxpayers' dollars on.

Cellphones smuggled into the Lee Correctional Institution in South Carolina were blamed for a deadly riot that lasted seven hours last spring. Seven inmates were killed in the chaos.
Another security measure already in place to fight contraband are the use of drones.
In May, South Carolina officials started flying drones 24 hours a day from prison to prison, monitoring what people outside of the prison are doing.
