CHARLOTTE — Temporary changes are coming to the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS).

Beginning Saturday, August 19, CATS will change the frequency of the CityLYNX Gold Line frequency from 20 minutes to 30 minutes.

The company says they are making this temporary change to guarantee the reliability and consistency of the public transportation service.

CATS says factors like staffing constraints and summer events contributed to the frequency change. The company also said they are increasing recruitment efforts to employ more rail operators using incentives like sign-on bonuses.

Channel 9 covered a similar story last year, where mandatory quarterly sick time took rail operators away from work lowering the frequency of light rail trains. Brett Baldeck, spokesperson for CATS, said this year’s operator absences are not similar to the cause of last year.
