CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Area Transit System is suspending its rail service, including its streetcar and light rail, for maintenance on Saturday and Sunday.
In a news release, CATS said it will be conducting routine and preventative maintenance in order to make sure the rail infrastructure is reliable. The work includes track, track bed, signal crossing and signal system work, and will go through the weekend.
“Regular rail maintenance is crucial for creating a rail system that will last for years to come,” said CATS CEO John Lewis. “We appreciate the community’s patience during this time. By suspending rail service, we can improve the reliability of our system for the future.”
CATS will end its normal service at 2 a.m. Saturday, and resume at 5 a.m. Monday.
Alternative transit service will be available through the LYNX Connector and CityLYNX Connector buses. For more information about those buses, riders can visit RideTransit.org.
