CATAWBA, N.C. — The chief of the Catawba Police Department was assaulted while responding to a call Tuesday afternoon, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty.
It happened when Chief Brian Bixby served an outstanding warrant on Richard David Miller Jr. at a gas station on South Main Street in downtown Catawba.

Miller ran off so Bixby chased him. Bixby injured his leg, then fell down, and injured his arm.
The chief was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Miller Jr. is being charged with misdemeanor assault on a government official and resisting arrest.
The SWAT Team was at the scene Tuesday.
