Catawba Co. jail goes high-tech for inmate visits

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — The Catawba County Detention Center is going high-tech, but it will cost people who want to use it.

The Hickory Daily Record reported it's the first center in the state to use an online video system for people visiting inmates.

That way people can use any internet-capable computer to talk to inmates and doesn't cost the county any money.

The calls cost users 50 cents per minute.

A physical visit to inmates for 15 minutes is still free.
