CHARLOTTE — A car fire rapidly spread to 13 others inside a parking deck near a NoDa apartment complex off Philemon Avenue.

The Charlotte Fire Department was called to the fire at 12:50 a.m. Thursday and got it under control 45 minutes later.

Channel 9′s Almiya White spoke with residents who said they noticed heavy smoke coming from the third floor of the parking garage.

“Everything was charred. Pretty much. There might have been, like, six or seven or eight cars that were completely charred,” said resident Symone Holliday.

Holliday said she parked her Ford Taurus on that floor, and now the back of her car is melted.

“I don’t really have any lights anymore. My trunk seems to be maybe like melted into itself, even the sides of it,” Holliday explained.

The Charlotte Fire Department said 14 cars were damaged.

Holliday said material things can be replaced, but she’s just happy everyone was okay.

“It really is amazing that no one did get hurt in this entire situation, and I’m just really happy that everyone and their pets and their families were safe at the end of the day,” Holliday expressed.

The fire that caused about $170,000 worth of damage was sparked from the engine compartment of the parked car. It was ruled accidental. There was also some structural damage reported.

There were no injuries.
