CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Carowinds spokeswoman said a group of kids caused some sort of disturbance Monday night at the park.

Channel 9 received several viewer comments on social media about hearing "pops" and describing a chaotic scene on the Fourth of July around 9 p.m.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, no tables were banged on the floor in Harmony Hall and only a bench fell over.

The spokeswoman said there was not major incident and no injuries, and released the following statement:

At approximately 9 p.m. Monday evening, a group of teenagers caused a disruption inside of Harmony Hall. Park security and local law enforcement agencies immediately responded and were able to identify the teenagers involved. The individuals were eventually detained and released to the care of their parents. The safety and well-being of our guests and associates is our highest priority.

Channel 9 spoke with a mother by phone who said she had to grab her children to avoid being trampled. She said dozens of teenagers were running through the park looking for someone they wanted to fight.

"These kids were running back and forth basically, terrorizing the park I would say, only because people didn't know what to do and they were running," she said. "It's just disgusting. It's sad. Kids were screaming, parents were screaming. Kids saying, 'I don't want to die.' It was just really sad. There was no control."

The mother told Channel 9 that the Carowinds security guards were helpless to stop the teenagers.
