CHARLOTTE — Big changes are coming to Carowinds.
Six Flags Entertainment recently purchased the theme park and announced a more than $1 billion investment in its parks over the next two years.
Plans at Carowinds include the debut of a family launch coaster and interactive raft ride in Camp Snoopy next year.
But park officials say to move forward, “sometimes we must step away from some attractions from our past.”
The park announced it will retire Nighthawk, Scream Weaver, and Drop Tower.
“We know that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate your passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and underscore our commitment to elevating the park experience,” park officials stated in a news release.
Scream Weaver debuted in the park’s County Fair area in 1979 but found its permanent home in Thrill Zone in 1993.
Drop Tower opened in 1996 and Nighthawk took flight in 2004.
