YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Carowinds is unveiling four new rides for the 2017 season in a newly expanded section of the park.

Winter is anything but quiet at Carowinds.

Next month, the Do-Si-Do, Electro Spin, Rock and Roller and Zephyr will take visitors back in time to the county fair.

"It's more like nostalgia,” park spokeswoman Laresa Thompson said. “These are the ones that I rode when I was a little girl."

The new rides will spin you on swings, twirl you in the air and blast pop music in your ears.

They are all still under construction and Thursday, Channel 9 went along for a hard-hat walking tour of the new county fair, which is near the water park.

In fact, a water slide was torn down to make room for the new three-acre addition.

The whole area is a construction zone.

"We have to get this done,” construction director Steve Jackson said. “Our opening day doesn't change. We can't move it a month or two months.”

The opening day is March 25.

The expansion is part of the $50 million, three-year
effort that parent company Cedar Fair is doing to upgrade the park, which opened in 1973.

Carowinds is also adding new food options in that area, which will have a county fair flavor.

Aside from removing the one water slide to make room for county fair, another long-time attraction is gone.

White Water Falls a fixture at the park since 1988, is closing after 26 years.
