Carolina Panthers release OT Michael Oher from team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have terminated offensive tackle Michael Oher’s contract, the team announced Thursday.

Oher, whose life was made famous by the movie "The Blind Side," started the first three games of the 2016 season before a concussion caused him to be inactive for the next seven games and placed on injured reserve.

After the Panthers made the announcement, Oher tweeted "The brain is a scary thing. You have to be careful with it."

Oher joined the Panthers in 2015 and started all 16 regular season games and three postseason games for a Panthers team that won an NFC Championship and made an appearance in Super Bowl 50.

The move comes just one day after Marty Hurney was hired as the interim general manager after Dave Gettleman was fired.

The offensive tackle had recently been in the headlines for a number of issues.

He quickly deleted a post in June that showed an image of 10 prescription bottles with the caption, "All for the brain smh (shaking my head)."

The Instagram post had some wondering if he would be returning to the field.

In May, Oher was charged with misdemeanor assault after an altercation with an Uber driver in April.

The Uber driver claimed the two got into an argument during a ride to downtown Nashville. The driver put his hand in Oher's face before Oher knocked him to the ground and kicked him, a police report said.
