ROCK HILL, S.C. — A glimpse into what the new Carolina Panthers headquarters in Rock Hill will look like has been released, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
On Tuesday, the Panthers released renderings for the team headquarters, which is expected to be nearly 640,000 square feet, and other aspects of the site. The team facility will be at the center of what is expected to be a transcendent development for Rock Hill and York County.
Documents obtained by the Charlotte Business Journal earlier this year showed local leaders expect the development to draw more than $2 billion in total investment upon full buildout.
In March, the Panthers finalized their acquisition of the HQ site, which is located off Interstate 77 between Eden Terrace and Dave Lyle Boulevard. The team paid $16.4 million for the 240.7-acre site, which it purchased from the Hutchison family. As part of the state’s incentives deal with the team to land the project, a new I-77 interchange will be constructed near the site.
A spokesperson for the S.C. Department of Transportation, told CBJ in June the cost of the interchange would land between $80 million and $90 million. SCDOT was awarded a $34.6 million grant for the interchange from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The financial incentive for the team to move its HQ across the state line has surpassed $400 million in total. On April 20, York County Council approved a $225 million incentives package from local governments for the project. The package will cover infrastructure costs at the site, which include road construction, site work and other project-related fees.
