CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said they responded to a shooting on Interstate 85 near Interstate 77 Monday afternoon.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the stretch of road in north Charlotte around 1:15 p.m. and saw a car riddled with bullet holes.
Police said they found a man who had been shot inside the car on the side of the road. They said the victim had been shot multiple times.
Officials shut down the ramp from Interstate 77 and Interstate 85 northbound as they investigated. Traffic was backed up for miles in the area.
Several officers were at the scene collecting evidence from the vehicle.

Police said the initial investigation indicates that a vehicle pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle and started shooting.
A woman told us what she saw when a black Impala pulled alongside the Mercedes.
“The person on the passenger’s side of the Impala pulled a gun out and just started shooting,” the woman said. “He shot at the car nine times.”
She said she saw the victim struggling to get to safety.
“He just kind of rushed and jumped out of the car, and he stood up for a second but he fell,” the woman said.
Police said the victim was grazed by bullets and taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive.
Police said no one is in custody at this time.
