STATESVILLE, N.C. — A man was airlifted to the hospital after a car plunged off a bridge and onto railroad tracks Tuesday night in Statesville.
Police said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on South Elm Street.
Witnesses said the car drove through a wooden barricade and off the bridge.
The railroad company reportedly shut down the tracks to train traffic so firefighters could reach the vehicle and free the driver, who was pinned inside.
It took rescue crews about 30 minutes to free that driver.
