Cam Newton wants you -- to play him in Madden

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is looking for someone to challenge him in a game of Madden football.

In a YouTube video released Friday under an ESPN account, Newton discusses why he should be on the cover of the 2013 release of Madden, one of the perennially most-sought after video games.

Newton is clearly having fun during the seven-minute video, in which he gives out nearly a dozen gamer aliases and challenges Calvin Johnson to an in-game contest.

“My first challenge goes out to you, Mr. Megatron, Calvin Johnson. If you are who you say you are and you want to be Mr. Madden ’13, can you play Madden?” Newton challenged.

He offers to stream live to the internet, the game between Johnson and himself.

Is Newton serious? The video game setup says yes.

Two massive flat screen televisions sit side-by-side in an otherwise sparsely decorated room. One of the TVs is connected to a Xbox 360, the other to a Playstation 3. Everything is connected to the internet, he said.

“XBox, Playstation 3, Atari, Game Cube, PSP – it doesn’t matter. We can even go to the Sega,” Newton says in the video. “This is what I do.”

He closes out the video posting his gamer tags on Xbox Live and Playstation Network, as well as posting his email address to accept challengers.
