CHARLOTTE, N.C. — He hasn’t been on the field much this season due to injury, but Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is currently crushing the competition in the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year charity challenge.
Newton is the Panthers’ nominee for that high-profile award, which is given to one player each year who makes a significant impact in his community.

The charity challenge asks fans to “vote” for their favorite nominee by using a special hashtag on Twitter — for QB1, for example, that hashtag is #WPMOYChallengeNewton. Newton surged into the stop spot over the weekend and, as of Tuesday morning, he remains there.
