CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A woman has been arrested after officials said a dog was intentionally hurt and left to die on the side of the road in Caldwell County.

Animal care enforcement officers in the county first asked for the public’s help finding a suspect earlier this week. They said they received a report of an injured dog in the area of Abington Road and Valley View Road last weekend.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the dog off the roadway.

The dog was severely hurt and was taken to an emergency vet for care. The dog is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing emergency surgery.

Officers identified 21-year-old Bethany Marie Beaver of Lenoir as the dog’s owner after receiving a tip.

Beaver was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty. She received a $15,000 bond and was taken to the county jail.
