GRANITE FALLS, N.C. — A Caldwell County family lost their home and their dog in a massive fire Sunday morning.
Fire officials said flames engulfed the home around 2:15 a.m. on Dudley Shoals Road in Granite Falls.
Officials said the fire started in the front of the home and quickly spread.

A good Samaritan helped the family escape from the house without injury.
Officials said several teams of firefighters assisted to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters said that during the fire, a car sped past the scene, struck the fire hose on the road and went airborne.
Police arrested the driver. No firefighters were injured, according the fire officials.
There was no word yet on what caused the fire.
