CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Lois Cook of Lenoir tried her luck on a $25 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million prize from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Cook bought her ticket from Jason Mart on Wilkesboro Boulevard in Lenoir.
Cook chose to take her winnings in a lump sum of $600,000. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $426,067.
