CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Families in Cabarrus County have learned that their children will be learning from home full-time starting in August.
The school board, erring on the side of caution, made that decision Thursday night. The board had been considering Plan B, but voted 4-3 to begin the school year with Plan C -- full remote learning.

Under Plan C, students will be learning remotely Monday through Thursday. During that time, there will be daily live instruction, video lessons, and social-emotional learning.
Fridays will be an independent work day and teachers will hold office hours.

Cabarrus County Schools also launched a new virtual learning academy for parents who have already decided on remote learning for their children. Parents have until the end of July to apply.
Some leaders did not agree with Plan C.
“At the end of the day, our job as a board is to provide the best education that we can for the kids of Cabarrus County, make sure we’re providing them with a quality education and right now, we’re not,” board member Laura Blackwell said.
The district will continue to monitor COVID-19 cases and said it is possible it could make a recommendation for a safe transition to in-person and remote learning later in the school year.
