CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said they responded to a fatal crash in uptown Charlotte near Bank of America Stadium Thursday morning.
Officials shut down West Morehead Street between South Cedar Street and South Mint Street around 6:30 a.m. for the investigation.
The road was reopened hours later.
Demtrice Antwan Gibson was speeding when he lost control of his Buick.
The Buick slid off the road, grazed a tree, then struck a second tree on the driver’s side. Gibson was trapped in the crushed vehicle and died at the scene.
